A woman in the city of South Tangerang was arrested for assaulting her daughter, police said, after she uploaded a video of the incident online.
According to the South Tangerang Police, on June 25, the suspect, identified by her initials LQ, dunked the head of her 20-month-old daughter AJ into a pail of water for around 10 seconds. LQ filmed the incident with her phone and sent the video to her husband as a way to express her anger that he allegedly showed preference toward his second wife instead of her.
Upon receiving the video, the husband smashed LQ’s phone in anger. LQ’s frustration continued to boil over the subsequent months that she eventually posted the same video on her Instagram.
“On Nov. 19, at around 5am, the suspect uploaded the video showing violence toward the victim on her Instagram account,” South Tangerang Police Chief Iman Setiawan said in a press briefing yesterday.
The video went hugely viral across social media platforms in Indonesia, attracting widespread outrage.
Seeing as how LQ made no attempt to hide her identity nor show remorse over her action, police had no trouble locating and arresting her.
LQ has been charged with assault of a minor, which is punishable by up to five years in prison under Indonesia’s Child Protection Law.
Police say AJ is doing well physically but she is currently under supervision of the South Tangerang Integrated Care Center for the Empowerment of Women and Children (P2TP2A) in light of her emotional distress.
