Indonesia and Jakarta are home to some incredibly talented artists who are increasingly gaining recognition internationally. Unfortunately, a lot of those same artists don’t get as much recognition locally, which is why we try our best to highlight the latest art happenings in the capital, from exhibitions and dance performances to poetry slams and Broadway musicals. Indonesian visual art can be found at a few museums such as the Galeri Nasional, and there is an increasing number of independent art galleries showing off their works. Salihara and Taman Ismail Marzuki are two places where you can regularly find cultural performances from the country’s brightest stars. Newer venues such as the Ciputra Artpreneur Theater have also opened their doors for international shows including Broadway productions that make their way to our shores.
