Fresh from making the unenviable list of the 10 least punctual airlines in the world according to a recent study, Indonesia AirAsiaX, AirAsia’s Indonesian subsidiary for long haul low-cost flights, today announced a new direct route between Jakarta and Tokyo

The route will be officially launched on May 1. From Jakarta, the flight will depart from Soekarno-Hatta Airport’s Terminal 3 to Tokyo’s Narita Airport daily, with the airline utilizing their 377-seater Airbus A330-300 on the route.

AirAsia Indonesia CEO Dendy Kurniawan said the airline launched the route in response to an increase in demand from tourists from both countries.

“We are opening this route to welcome even more Japanese tourists to experience Indonesia’s wonders. Furthermore, the number of Indonesian tourists to Japan has grown 30% from the previous year,” he said, as quoted by Tribun.

AirAsia is offering special low fares to promote the launch of this new route. A one-way all-in fare from Jakarta to Tokyo starts from IDR1.19 million (US$88.67) for flights scheduled between May 1 and October 27. The offer ends on February 11.

Indonesia AirAsia X will be the fourth airline to fly direct from Jakarta to Tokyo after Garuda Indonesia, All Nippon Airways, and Japan Airlines.
