Unusual Eats: Five weird, wonderful foods to try at Yum Fest

Just a few more days till we here at Coconuts unleash Yum Fest, our first ever free, weekend-long food fest at The Jam Factory.

We’re getting hyped for the music, the eating contests, the tours, and the entertainment but — let’s get real — we’re mostly getting geared to eat.

Though we’ve already shared many of the festival’s food highlights with you, from Peppina, to Daniel Thaiger, to The Dock. Now, we want to share some of the most unusual foods you can try this weekend.

These noms are anything but normal!

Well-loved experimental Charoenkrung restaurant Seven Spoons will be on hand dishing up cricket pasta with wild tree basil pesto. You’ll be surprised when you taste it, the slightly brown, somewhat nutty spiral-shaped pasta tastes very similar to whole wheat varieties but is one of a new generation of highly sustainable foods.

Lick Ice Cream will freezing up one of our favorite foods when they serve up their corn-flavored soft serve ice cream served in an actual corn cob. You might have seen this ice cream all over Instagram — it’s gone super viral over the last few months.

The beloved Crepe Par Cheou is bringing their delicious sweet crepes. Created by a famous aunty from a Lad Phrao market, the woman was as famous for how delicious her crepes as for how slowly she made them. Stories abound of people ordering crepes as soon as she opened early in the evening and returning hours later to find her just finishing the order. Apparently, they are well worth the wait though.

Are you a fan of the ever-sexy social media cheese pull photos? If so, get thyself over to the Just Fries booth at Yum Fest. these cheesemongers will be plying their stretchy grilled cheese sandwiches, gooey and cheesy enough to get mouths watering from across the festival.

Butterfly pea milk drink is as Thai as it gets and no one makes it better than Cher Cheeva, after you’ve had your fill of cheese, fried things, and edible bugs, watch the sun go down with a sweet refreshing, disturbingly blue cup of Insta-worthy butterfly pea tea.

Ahhhh! That hits the spot.
