A heavily intoxicated Mexican tourist reportedly caused a public nuisance by throwing himself onto moving cars in the early hours of Tuesday in north Denpasar. Officers from the local Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) suspected that he was under the influence of mushrooms.

“This is what happened, it appears he was under the influence of mushrooms. No idea where he appeared from, suddenly he was on Jalan Kertanegara. Local residents were concerned because every car that passed by he would deliberately throw himself in front of,” Dewa Gede Anom Sayoga, who heads the Satpol PP in Denpasar, told Detik yesterday.

The Mexican man, identified as Jorge Alejandro by local media outlets, was then taken to the Sanglah General Hospital. Satpol PP said they are in touch with the Mexican Honorary Consulate in Bali regarding the incident.

“Maybe he was heavily drunk and stressed out. When we apprehended him he was conscious, but he’d broken his leg,” Sayoga said, as quoted by Kumparan

This latest incident is at least the second time this month involving foreigners and mushrooms, a type of recreational drug that has long been popular among visitors of Bali that is also illegal under Indonesia’s harsh drug laws.

Last month, a Belarusian man was kicked out from his Kuta boarding house for allegedly creating a disturbance under the influence of mushrooms.
