If there’s a crazy story that’s gone viral on the Bali net, you can be darn sure that we’re going to report on it. It’s our sworn pledge to wade through the dark corners of the internet to bring you the best (and worst) of what’s being shared about Bali from naughty monkeys to hilarious jingles about the island.
While we’ve already put together a list of your favorite Coconuts Bali posts of the year, as the top-read stories of 2017, we’re kinda selfish and feel the need to remind you of some of our faves, that we found extremely entertaining but weren’t necessarily the highest clicked on.
Here they are, in particular order.
1. NSFW: Monkeys share ‘banging’ moment atop a tourist’s head in Ubud Monkey Forest
Monkeys doing the deed on the top of some guy’s head. What happens in the Monkey Forest, stays in the Monkey Forest, amirite?

2. ‘Canggu Hipsters’ and ‘Hungry in Ubud’: YouTuber parodies Bali trends
We’ve all encountered some obnoxious hipsters in Canggu and hippies in Ubud at one point or another. Props to this girl for parodying the irritating stereotypes in such a hilarious, catchy way.

3. Lil Wayne mistook petrol for vodka while in Bali, jokes viral post
Indonesians sell petrol in liquor bottles on the side of the road, it’s a thing. But those visiting sometimes could get confused and think there’s just cheap Absolut for sale on every street. ‘What if Lil Wayne got drunk on this cheap sh*t?’, joked a viral Facebook post.

4. VIRAL: Balinese man bathes in ‘cold lava flow’ for Hindu cleansing ritual
Because there’s nothing cleaner and more purifying than bathing in a dirty, ashy, debris-filled river, right?

5. Balinese priests trek to top of volcano to pray against eruption
They just had to see for themselves.

“Went through my bags like McCartney in Japan, I didn’t have a thing, so I didn’t give a damn.
“You can’t trick me, because I’ve been to Bali too.”

7. Viral: Mighty old man slings scooter on shoulder like it’s a sack of potatoes
Ain’t no thang for this daddy.

8. Bali university students scour YouTube for erotic Balinese dance content to flag and report
Balinese students stood up for their culture, flagging and reporting any content they could find on YouTube of the dance joget bumbung being taken over the line, to a pornographic level. It kind of gave the term ‘keyboard warriors’ a whole different meaning.
