Nicholas Carr, the Australian man who was arrested after he allegedly fly-kicked a man off a moving scooter in August, reportedly met face-to-face with the victim of his drunken rampage during a trial in Denpasar yesterday. The Balinese man, identified as I Wayan Wirawan, said in court that he’s forgiven Carr for what he did.

“I don’t know why he [the defendant] kicked. I don’t hold any grudge because Balinese people are forgiving. We have made peace,” Wirawan said, as quoted by Tribun-Bali.

Wirawan also explained that Carr has replaced his damaged vehicle with a new motorbike worth IDR40 million (US$2,838) and also paid for the treatment of his injuries.

The moment when Carr fly-kicked Wirawan off his scooter on Bali’s Sunset Road in August was captured in a spectacular video that quickly became viral and sparked a multitude of reactions from netizens both in Indonesia and Australia.

Wirawan miraculously suffered only minor injuries from the incident, and Carr was soon chased by angry locals who tried to subdue him, and he was later detained by authorities.

According to reports, Carr and Wirawan shook hands and embraced after the trial yesterday.

Carr told the Denpasar District Court that he was under the influence of alcohol that night, claiming that he had drank about 20 to 30 glasses of vodka.

“My memory is unclear. Suddenly I was at the hospital, my hands were cuffed and there were stitches on my arms,” Carr reportedly said, speaking through a translator.

The 26-year-old added he was unable to recall having fly-kicked Wirawan that night and said he regretted his actions.

“I apologize to everyone who is affected by what I did and their families. I apologize to the people of Bali as well,” Carr said.

Under Indonesia’s criminal code, Carr could face up to two years and eight months in jail for his alleged assault on Wirawan.
