Forget being a big movie star; everyone knows it’s the extras who make a flick really shine. You too can now achieve immortal glory on the silver screen in a big Hollywood movie, because production company Hello Group is looking for extras in the upcoming Crazy Rich Asians.
Open to all ethnicities and nationalities between the ages of five to 60, Hello Group’s casting call is for background actors who will be available between June 7 till June 23 for shoots around Singapore. Roles include (and are not limited to) Sikh security guards, bodyguards, string musicians, synchronized swimmers and more.
Other typically Singaporean characters such as airhead influencers, ofo bike wreckers, and uptight articulate assholes weren’t specified, but hey, you never know until you apply.
No prior acting experience needed, but you do have to be professional. Punctuality, positive work attitudes and the ability to endure 12 hours of shooting are a must — but most importantly, don’t bother the main cast and crew with selfie requests and the like.
Filming for the big screen adaptation of Kevin Kwan’s Singapore-set novel has already begun, with actual proper Asian leads (*cough* no whitewashing *cough*). Director Jon M. Chu (Now You See Me 2, G.I. Joe: Retaliation) already pledged to get the adaptation right, and so far the casting choices have been on fleek. The international likes of Constance Wu (Fresh Off the Boat), Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), Sonoya Mizuno (Ex Machina), Awkwafina (Neighbours 2) and more will be starring in the film alongside local veterans Pierre Png, Fiona Xie, and Tan Kheng Hua.
Oh, and they’ll soon be acting alongside you as well, if you manage to land a part. Good luck!
