Update: Instead of opening on Nov 25, the store will now open in December. In the meantime, it will run a pop-up space at B1 of Isetan Scotts from Nov 23-Dec 6.
Famous brands known for their long queues sure like to set up shop in Singapore. From previous attractions like Bake Cheese Tart and Original Cake to the recently-launched Heytea and Tiger Sugar, they never fail to lure large crowds that seem to have nothing better to do than wait patiently in line for a taste (and an Instagram shot).
If you’re not interested in any of the above brands and haven’t flexed your queueing muscles in a while, here’s a new takeaway joint for you to consider. Naganuma Ice, a popular soft serve ice cream brand in Japan, is launching its first store in Singapore at Carlton City Hotel in December. Founded in 1994 with an outlet in its namesake town of Naganuma, the shop apparently draws long queues, even after it expanded overseas to Taiwan.
Known for its use of Hokkaido raw milk and eggs, Naganuma Ice comes to town with six soft serve and 12 gelato flavors, including the signature rich milk soft serve ($6).
Plus, we’re the only store to get the crème brûlée rich milk soft serve ($8), a mix of milk soft serve and custard that’s apparently flown in every week from the Naganuma Ice Hokkaido factory and torched to caramelized perfection.
Gelato options include vanilla, double cheese, mango, and strawberry milk ($5.50/single scoop, $6.50/double scoop), with new flavors switching in every three to four days. The menu features a Singapore-exclusive Black Lover Parfait ($8.50) as well, made of cream, strawberry jam, cookie crumbs, and Asahikawa dark chocolate.
