Teenage girl escapes rape attempt in angkot by pretending to be possessed by ghost

Angkot minivans do not have a good reputation for passenger safety, especially for female passengers, as there have been several cases in the recent past in which passengers were sexually assaulted in an angkot or by angkot drivers.

But one 17-year-old girl, ND, from Serang, Banten, managed to dissuade her assailants from attacking her by pretending to be possessed by a ghost.

The story was recalled during yesterday’s court hearing of the suspect, angkot driver Soleh. On May 27, ND boarded Soleh’s angkot to get to Ciomas from Serang, and was the only passenger in the minivan.

But instead of driving towards Ciomas, Soleh took a detour to pick up three friends.

They then drove towards Anyer Beach while boozing and threatening ND. As the culprits began putting their hands on ND, she screamed as if a ghost possessed her.

Alarmed, Soleh and his three friends tossed ND out of the angkot and left her on the side of the road.

“The suspect (Soleh) and his friends kicked [ND] out of the angkot,” said prosecutor Endo Prabowo during the court hearing yesterday, as quoted by Merdeka.

Soleh and his three friends were arrested soon after, and they are currently undergoing trial at the Serang District Court.
