A South Korean man has become the subject of outrage in Indonesia after he was filmed insulting people from the archipelago nation on online video chat site OmeTV.
Earlier this week, aspiring Indonesian YouTuber Indah Asmigianti uploaded a video of her encounters with three men she met through the South Korean server on OmeTV. Like Chatroulette and Omegle, the site allows users to chat with random people anonymously.
While Indah’s encounters with the other two young men, who said they were still in high school, were rather pleasant, the third man identified as a Korean launched a racist tirade against Indonesians. The clip showing Indah’s exchange with the Korean man has circulated widely online.
“Oh, your face is so horrible, man. Oh I cannot see,” the guy said while putting his hands to his screen, as if to cover Indah’s face.
It appears that the two of them briefly disconnected, but then found each other again after a little while, during which Indah said that she had recorded his rants and would upload the video online for everyone to see. The guy, however, responded by saying that he couldn’t care less.
“Oh okay, I don’t care, you know. I still think that Korean people are upper (above) Indonesian people,” he told Indah, before continuing that his country has a better GDP and economy compared to Indonesia.
“You’re gonna be so fucking famous in Indonesia, you dumbass,” Indah said as she scolded the man, who said several times that he didn’t care before ending the video chat.
Somehow — but unsurprisingly — Indonesians managed to find the Korean man’s Instagram page and reportedly chastised him for what he said on OmeTV, prompting him to post a couple of Instagram stories begging for mercy from Indonesian netizens.
“I speak in English because I don’t know your language. I know I’m guilty but this has nothing to do with skin color and my country, once again I’m sorry. I love Indonesia, a great country and a beautiful country. Please don’t attack me,” he wrote on Instagram story.
“Once again I’m sorry, please stop it. This news has arrived in my country. This really bothers me.”
