Police in Cengkareng, West Jakarta have arrested a man who stands accused of assaulting and killing his neighbor during a violent altercation over dog poop.

The victim has been identified as a 59-year-old man who went by the initials AH. According to reports, on Saturday, his daughter took their poodle for a walk before it defecated in front of the home of the suspect, a 47-year-old man who is identified by his initials JA.

JA, who saw the dog poop, was livid and demanded AH’s daughter call her father over. AH did not appreciate his daughter being yelled at and confronted JA, before the suspect punched the victim in the face.

“There were witnesses two houses down from the suspect’s. [They saw] the victim getting punched, and he likely smacked his head on the ground [as he fell],” Cengkareng Police Crime Investigation Unit Head Bintang told reporters yesterday.

AH fell unconscious and was immediately brought to a nearby hospital, where he passed away in the same evening.

JA was then arrested and charged with assault that leads to death under the Criminal Code, which is punishable by up to seven years in prison.
