It takes a certain kind of “special” to attempt a dangerous car stunt on a tight bend — and a busy one at that.
A video posted two days ago on Instagram has gone viral, showing a green Mazda hatchback being driven at high speeds in the Karanganyar Regency of Central Java. It appears that the driver tried to slalom the car around the tight bend, only to woefully understeer and lose control of the vehicle, which bumped off another car before crashing near where the person who recorded the video was standing.
It’s not immediately clear what the car crashed into, but after the viral video caught the attention of the police, they revealed that the Mazda has smashed into a public toilet attached to a restaurant on the side of the road — while somebody was inside.
“Based on witness statements, there were two people inside the car — a driver and a passenger. Other than them, there were two others who were outside recording,” Karanganyar Police Traffic Unit Head Faris Budiman told Kompas yesterday.
It’s not clear the extent of the injuries suffered by the person in the toilet as the police only mentioned that they were “wounded”.
Nobody else was hurt in the incident but there were reports of damage to at least one other car. Police said the driver had planned to pull off the stunt while his friends were filming.
The Mazda driver was arrested and charged with negligent driving, which is punishable by up to four years in prison. It’s not yet clear if the driver’s three friends will be charged as well.
