Recently, a video showing a middle-aged man slapping a female driver during a dispute on the Jakarta-Tangerang toll road went viral online, with many netizens calling for the man to be prosecuted over what they perceived as a clear case of assault.

According to information that has been circulating online, the incident occurred on Monday afternoon. From their exchange in the clip, it seemed as if the female driver had cut off the man’s car and they both stopped their vehicles on the side of the road to have a word with each other.
The man went over to speak with the female driver and berated her about her driving. The female driver then asked him, “How old are you sir?”, which angered the man and led him to slap her hard in the face.
The man then returned to his car and drove off while the female driver and her passenger, who filmed the incident, went on to pursue the man’s car, though it’s not known what happened after the video stopped.
The police say they haven’t received a formal report from the female driver, but are urging her to file one against her assaulter.
“There is no police report. We ask the victim report to us and tell us when and where it happened,” said Jakarta Metro Police Spokesman Argo Yuwono, as quoted by Kompas today.
Despite the lack of a police report from the victim, Argo said that the police may still pursue the man in the video for assault, especially since his car’s license plate is visible throughout the clip.
Argo said that the public should not hesitate to report criminal acts to the police, especially when there’s video footage as evidence.
