Jakarta’s Gelora Bung Karno Stadium recently completed a IDR760 billion (US$60.8 million) renovation aimed at getting the aging sports venue ready for when the capital hosts part of the Asian Games in August. Sunday night’s match between the Indonesian and Icelandic national teams was the first time the public got a chance to check out the stadium’s brand new look, but some spectators brought with them old bad habits like putting their feet up on the chairs.

Fortunately, as Twitter user Daniel Giovanni shows in this video, the stadium’s new management seems intent on keeping fans’ feet where they belong, even if it involves a bit of public shaming.

That’s right. Instead of a kiss cam, the cheeky CCTV operators at GBK used the stadium’s  giant screens to draw attention to members of the audience who were getting cozy with the feet on the seats in front of them. Using the power of social pressure, the combined boos of the crowd got the chair violators to drop their legs for their subsequent cheers.

Though it seems like quite an effective deterrent, the shame-cam was not totally effective at coercing correct chair usage, as many photos of fans standing up on their seats, and others, were posted online.

There was even photos of one of the stadium’s seats having been broken during the match (and remember, this was the first time the public had ever even had a chance to abuse GKB’s new chairs).

Hopefully that chair, and the careless attitudes of some Indonesian spectators, will be fixed before the Asian Games starts in August.
