Two dead, 13 injured in Swiss-Belhotel Kelapa Gading construction site fire

A fire broke out at the construction site of the Swiss-Belhotel in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, last night, killing two workers.

The fire, which began at around 4:30pm, reportedly burned floors 16 and 23-27 of the hotel.

Two construction workers, identified as Abdul Majid and Waryadi, died after being among more than a dozen people trapped in the fire.

“We evacuated the victims, but one died on the way to the hospital and one died in the hospital,” said Satriadi Gunawan, head of North Jakarta’s Fire Department, as quoted by Kompas.

Thirteen others were evacuated but were injured in the fire. They are now receiving medical care. Fire and rescue teams reportedly managed to rescue everyone trapped in the fire.

23 firetrucks were deployed at the scene, and the raging inferno was finally put out at around 9pm.
