Fairly or not, one might only expect swift repair of public facilities in places like Japan, but Jakarta has proved that it can get things done quickly as well with the instant repairs of damaged TransJakarta bus stops.
Last Friday, dozens of TransJakarta bus stops in the city were set ablaze and destroyed during violent protests against the controversial jobs creation law. Governor Anies Baswedan previously said the repairs of 20 damaged bus stops would cost around IDR55 billion (US$3.7 million), but the repair bill is likely going to be higher given that the latest reports put the number of wrecked bus stops at 25.

Yesterday, all of the damaged bus stops resumed operations following some impressively quick patch-up jobs. TransJakarta shared before and after photos of the bus stops, showing their wrecked states on Oct. 9 and their repaired states as of Oct. 12.

“In accordance with instructions from Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, the TransJakarta bus stops are now functional for minimum operations,” the tweet above reads, which used the hashtags #JakartaTangguh (resilient Jakarta) and #JagaJakarta (take care of Jakarta).
For now, the bus stops are limited to up to 50 percent capacity, and it’s expected that they will all be fully repaired within a couple of months. Hopefully there will be no further damage of public property should there be more protests in the coming days and weeks.
