The Jakarta provincial government has officially extended “PSBB Transisi,” the transitional phase of the Large-Scale Social Restrictions protocol, starting today until Jan. 17.

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said in a press conference yesterday that the decision was taken after evaluation by the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) and Universitas Indonesia’s Faculty of Public Health (FKM UI).

“We in the government will be consistently running the 3Ts, which are testing, tracing, and treatment while the public carry out the 3Ms, which are washing hands with soap, using face masks, and maintaining [physical] distance so that we can contain the effects of the COVID-19 spread, especially after the Christmas and New Year holiday,” Anies said.

The coronavirus transmission in the capital is far from under control, with the highest active cases of 15,871 recorded on Jan. 1. Many had expected that the provincial government would enforce tougher restrictions as Jakartans are returning home this week from the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Additionally, the emergence of COVID-19 clusters in households has become the latest challenge faced by the Jakarta government, as most new infections have spread between families over year-end holiday.

As of Jan. 3, Jakarta has recorded 189,243 cases, including 3,345 deaths and 15,388 currently in treatment.
