After multiple delays (the initial targeted date for operations was the end of 2016), the city to Soekarno-Hatta Airport train is totally going to be ready for operations on November 25, at least if officials are to be believed.
According to PT Railink, the company operating the airport train, all preparations are complete for the train to start transporting passengers from the city to the airport by the end of next month.
“It’s all ready, at the end of the month there will be (10 trains) available. Right now six trains have arrived,” said PT Railink First Director Heru Kuswanto, as quoted by Kumparan today.
“Everything is clear. Electrification is done, land clearance is done, and there were no problems with construction. We’re optimistic we’ll get rolling (on November 25).”
The airport train will depart from Manggarai Station in South Jakarta, stopping at Sudirman Baru, Duri, and Batu Ceper before reaching Soekarno-Hatta Train Station. A single journey is expected to take around 54 minutes, costing passengers IDR75,000-IDR100,000 (US$5.55 – US$7.40) depending on the departure station.
PT Railink estimates that the airport train will be able to carry 33,000 passengers daily in 124 trips. A single trip from Manggarai to Soekarno-Hatta is predicted to take 54 minutes.
From the outset, PT Railink will not make tickets available for purchase via cash transaction. Instead, passengers will have to pay electronically using cards issued by the country’s 10 largest banks.
The airport train is another boost to Soekarno-Hatta’s connectivity. Last month, the airport launched the Skytrain, linking passengers between Terminals 2 and 3.
