Tangled: Paraglider hanging down from power lines rescued after 3 hours

Rescue officials brought down a paraglider to safety in North Sulawesi yesterday morning following a glide gone wrong.

According to reports, Hans Mawikere was one of five paragliders who lifted off from Mount Mahawu to fly a gigantic Indonesian flag as part of Independence Day celebrations in the region. 

However, Hans was blown off course and got his chute tangled up in power lines. Hans himself avoided contact with the 70 kV power lines but was hanging down from them nearly 100 feet off the ground.

Maintenance workers from state power utility PLN soon arrived at the scene and joined rescue efforts. With experience climbing transmission towers and traversing power lines, they managed to reach Hans and lowered him down to safety using a harness.

Hans was hanging down from the power lines for three hours before he safely touched the ground. Thankfully, he did not suffer any injuries from the incident.
