Police in Bekasi, West Java arrested a 17-year-old male in connection to the murder and mutilation of a 24-year-old male, the latter of whom was alleged to have repeatedly raped the former.
The suspect, who is identified by his initial A, is a manusia silver (silver man) street performer. The performers, who coat their entire bodies with silver paint, are commonly found asking for donations on streets throughout Indonesia.
The mutilated torso of the murder victim, identified as DS, was found by a river on Monday. Police said his other body parts, including his head, were later found scattered throughout the area.
Police arrested A near his home on Wednesday. The teenager, who did not resist arrest, confessed to killing DS, saying it was payback for the numerous times he was sodomized by the murder victim.
“[A is] a busker and a silver man. He was orphaned when he was 10,” Bekasi Metro Police Deputy Chief Alfian Nurrizal said yesterday.
Premeditated murder is a crime punishable by the death penalty in Indonesia. However, activists are calling for A to be protected under the Child Protection Law, considering that the minor is alleged to be a rape victim.
