Public complains that many Kemang clubs are unlicensed, too noisy

The Tourism Office of Jakarta recently said it had received numerous reports and complaints from the public about certain clubs in the South Jakarta nightlife hotspot of Kemang.

“There have been several reports that, in the area of Kemang, many of the discotheques are not licensed,” said Purba Hutapea, the head of the Jakarta Tourism Office, as quoted by Tribunnews.

Purba said that his office had also gotten reports that many nightclubs were playing their music extremely loud. He said that, in honor of the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, nightclubs in Kemang should comply with the rules regarding conduct and operational opening hours as specified by governmental regulations.

“If they are respectful, during Ramadan they will turn the volume of their music down a bit,” he added.

The Chairman of the Jakarta Nightlife Association (Aspehindo), Adrian Meilite, had harsher words, saying that any nightclubs operating without the proper licenses should be shut down.

“Just be assertive and close unlicensed venues like that,” he said.
