Police to close West Java’s Puncak for 12 hours on New Year’s Eve

The Bogor Police will close the route leading to Puncak, West Java, in the latest attempt to hinder year-end vacationers from crowding the popular mountainous tourist destination.

Dicky Pranata, who heads Bogor Police’s Traffic Unit, said that the Gadog Highway in Ciawi, Bogor regency will be closed for 12 hours on New Year’s Eve, from Dec. 31 at 6pm to Jan. 1 at 6am.

“In order to reduce the density of traffic and prevent the spread of COVID-19 around the Puncak route on New Year’s Eve 2021,” Dicky said yesterday.

Those who plan to go to Cianjur regency or the province’s capital of Bandung around that time can take alternative routes via Sukabumi and Jonggol.

The entry to Puncak is regularly closed for NYE every year, but this year the closure is especially essential due to an expected influx of visitors despite the ongoing pandemic.

Located around 70 kilometers south of Jakarta, Puncak is located in Bogor and Cianjur regencies. The area is situated at the foot and slopes of Gede and Pangrango mountains, and it’s a popular destination for domestic and foreign tourists, especially as a weekend getaway for Jakartans.
