Police arrest man who allegedly killed wife with acid after seeing her ride motorcycle with another man

The West Jakarta Metro Police arrested a 28-year-old man identified by the initials RK for the alleged murder of his wife, 24-year-old SM.

The police believe that the murder was borne out of jealousy.

“He carried out the act because he saw his wife riding a motorcycle with another man,” said West Jakarta Metro Police Deputy Chief AKBP Faizal, as quoted by Okezone yesterday.

The murder occurred on November 25. SM was on her way home from work on an angkot minivan when RK hopped onto the vehicle to splash her with 19 liters of sulfuric acid that he had collected with the intention to kill his wife. The acid burned through SM’s skin and some of it also splashed onto the left shoulder of the angkot driver.

SM was taken to the Cengkareng Regional Hospital but passed away around 2 hours later.

RK fled Jakarta following the incident, taking a bus to Belitung and hiding from the authorities on the island.

He was eventually tracked down and arrested before being brought back to Jakarta. RK could be charged with domestic violence and premeditated murder, though it’s not yet known what punishment he could face.
