Police in Yogyakarta have arrested a woman whose poisoned satay fell into the wrong hands and killed a 10-year-old boy last week.

Police said the suspect, a 25-year-old woman identified by her initials NAN, bought cyanide intended for use as rat poison via an e-commerce platform. She planned to use it to poison her ex-boyfriend, a cop named Tomy.
“Her motive was heartbreak, because the target married someone else, not her,” Yogyakarta Police General Crimes Investigation Unit chief Burkan Rudy said yesterday.
On April 25, NAN reportedly asked a motorcycle taxi and delivery driver (locally known as ojek online or ojol for short) named Bandiman to deliver the grilled skewered meat to Tomy. NAN told Bandiman the package was from a man named Hamid, but did not give his phone number to the driver.
At the destination, Bandiman contacted Tomy, who said he was out of town and asked him to leave the satay with his wife at home. The wife, however, refused the package because she didn’t know anyone named Hamid, so Bandiman took the food home.
Bandiman ate the satay with his family, though, unlike his wife and 10-year-old son, he crucially did not dip the skewers into the sauce, which contained the cyanide. His wife vomited immediately, and his son vomited before collapsing and foaming at the mouth.
Bandiman then took his son to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead from poisoning.
Police said NAN has been charged with premeditated murder, which is punishable with life imprisonment. Authorities are also on the hunt for an accomplice, who convinced NAN to poison her ex-boyfriend.
