Indonesian authorities are looking into an online pedophile network after receiving complaints from parents about the existence of a Facebook group in which members upload photos of little boys wearing singlets (sleeveless undershirts).
The Facebook group, called “Penggemar Singlet Kaos Dalam Anak SD” (Fans of elementary school kids wearing undershirts), features photos of little boys wearing singlets, sometimes accompanied by adult males, uploaded by the group’s hundreds of members.
The National Police said they are looking into opening an investigation into the group, while the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) is looking to coordinate with the IT Ministry to shut down the page, as well as other pages like it.
“As a preventive measure, we are coordinating with the relevant parties, including the IT Ministry and the social media platform,” said KPAI head Susanto, as quoted by Detik today.
As of this morning, the group is no longer accessible to the public.
Susanto said that parents should keep groups like these in mind before posting photos or information about their children on social media.
“Parents must be careful and not be so easy to give permission to their children to upload their private photos on Facebook. This is to prevent unwanted things,” he said.
Recently, actress Nafa Urbach said she limited her 6-year-old daughter’s social media privileges after some alleged child sexual predators called her daughter a “loli” (short for “lolita”, a term used to describe an underage girl who is sexually precocious or desirable by pedophiles) online.
