Today, North Korea’s Ambassador to Indonesia, An Kwang Il, visited Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama at City Hall. Instead of the usual boring talk about strengthening bilateral relations between two countries, Il had a unique proposal for Ahok.
“He (Il) wanted to exchange a Korean tiger for one of our orangutans. He’s still thinking about how to ship [the tiger], maybe via a week of quarantine and transit in Beijing first,” Ahok said after meeting with Il at City Hall today, as quoted by Vivanews.
There actually isn’t such a thing as a “Korean tiger”, but Ahok might have been referring to the Siberian tiger, which can be found in the wilds of the North Korea-Russia border.
Ahok said that such an exchange could strengthen ties between Jakarta and the North Korean capital of Pyongyang, which is one of its sister cities.
In addition, Ahok said he was also invited to visit Pyongyang in April.
