The Palmerah train station used to be one of the most crowded in Jakarta, despite its lack of facilities and primitive buildings. Now, it’s one of the best and most modern train stations in the city.
The Ministry of Transportation officially opened the newly renovated train station to the public today.
The expanded station, which can now serve 50,000 passengers a day – up from 14,000 passengers a day pre-renovation – is being touted as the first of many truly modern train stations in Jakarta.
“Soon, all train stations will be like this,” said Deputy Palmerah Station Chief Mardirianto, as quoted by Tempo today.
The train station now boasts lifts, escalators, and even a nursery room in its grand arch design. It also has pedestrian bridges so passengers can now safely cross the crowded roads by the station.
The renovation of the train station costs Rp 36 billion. Let’s hope this is a sign for much improved service by national train operators PT KAI in the future.
