It may have sounded too ridiculous to be real, but we now have confirmation that the viral story that an Indonesian couple naming their newborn baby Pajero Sport, after the mighty Mitsubishi SUV, is totally true.

PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKSI), the official distributor of Mitsubishi in Indonesia, located the baby and his family in Pamulang, South Tangerang after a brief search. Yesterday, their PR head met baby Pajero Sport and his family to convey their appreciation for the name and to give the family a present for what is effectively free publicity for the company’s top of the line SUV.

Was the present a free Pajero Sport for the family? Er, not quite. According to MMKSI PR head Intan Vidiasari, they gave the family some much-needed supplies for the baby.

But MMKSI brought over a Pajero Sport during the meeting so that Muis, baby Pajero’s father, could get up close to his favorite car.

“We’d like for Pak Muis’ family to get closer acquainted with his favorite car, so that they become bigger fans of Pajero Sport,” Intan said, as quoted by Kompas.

Baby Pajero Sport, who was born on April 26, 2017, is the fourth child for Muis and his wife. Muis admitted that he gave the name to his child despite initial opposition from family and friends, but did not intend for baby Pajero to go viral.

“People posted (the photo) on Facebook for fun, it turned out to cause a lot of excitement. There was no intention to cause sensation, none at all. We just happen to be fans (of the Pajero Sport SUV) so we decided to give that name,” Muis said, as quoted by Detik.

“I hope [the baby] can be tough like the Pajero Sport (SUV), so he can be placed anywhere [like the all-terrain vehicle]. And I hope he becomes a devout son, dedicated to his parents.”
