A 10-year-old boy in Medan, North Sumatra has died after he was bitten by a neighbor’s dog, with the victim’s family reportedly pressing charges against the dog owner.

On Thursday, June 10, the victim, who is identified by his initials RA, walked in front of the neighbor’s house when the dog, which wasn’t on a leash, attacked RA and bit him in his right leg.

RA’s parents took him to a hospital for a tetanus shot that same day, followed by a rabies shot the following Saturday. Sadly, on Sunday, the boy passed away after he exhibited some severe symptoms.

“The victim had no appetite, had diarrhea and vomited a lot,” the family’s lawyer, Oki Andriansyah, told reporters yesterday.

RA’s family confronted the dog owner about the attack, but, according to Oki, the latter refused to accept any responsibility for the incident and challenged the family to file a complaint with the police.

The family did just that, and the case is now being investigated by the Medan Provincial Police’s Crime Investigation Unit.

RA’s cause of death has not been officially determined, and it’s not yet clear whether or not the dog that bit him had received its rabies shot.
