Authorities in Jakarta have apprehended a man who robbed a warteg (a modest stall or kiosk selling affordable food) while wearing a uniform that’s identical to that of the far-right Indonesian paramilitary organization, Pemuda Pancasila (Pancasila Youth).

The robbery reportedly occurred on Tuesday at a warteg in Kembangan, West Jakarta, with the CCTV recording of the incident circulating widely online. The suspect, identified as 28-year-old CR, was seen bursting into the warteg in his Pancasila Youth uniform while brandishing a sickle, which he waved at the eatery’s staff.

CR then put his sickle down and appeared to engage in a debate with a staff member. Not long after, CR hastily pulled out a bench and stumbled before managing to sit cross-legged on it.

Kembangan sub-precinct chief Imam Irawan said that CR took IDR100,000 (US$7) from the warteg staff by means of coercion. CR has allegedly robbed the same warteg twice before, with police now looking into the case to see if he’s also coerced businesses elsewhere.

While the warteg suffered some financial loss, police confirmed that there were no casualties from the incident.

“He just demanded money like that with a sickle,” Imam said today, adding that CR committed the robbery to fulfill his daily needs as he’s currently unemployed.

Pancasila Youth has come out to deny that CR is, or ever was, a member, and police did not find any proof of membership linking him to the paramilitary organization.
