A man who claimed to be a cop and cursed at a bunch of cyclists in North Jakarta has issued a public apology and clarified that he isn’t, in fact, a police officer.

The incident, which took place in Pantai Indah Kapuk 2 (PIK 2), Penjaringan district on Monday, was caught on camera, with a video having circulated widely on social media since. The footage shows a man in a grey shirt, who is identified as JM, arguing with at least three cyclists who allegedly parked their bicycles in front of his car and didn’t want to move them out of JM’s way.

“Move your bicycles away! You don’t want to move, how will my car move? Where is your brain, use it. I’m a cop!” JM snapped at the cyclists, while one of the other men tried to break up the argument.

Meanwhile, a man in a batik shirt, who appeared to be siding with JM, threatened to hit one of the cyclists in white shirt, who said, “Sorry, sorry, I said sorry, how many times should I apologize?”

Throughout the video, JM was seen pushing and hitting the cyclist a couple of times.

Wirdhanto Hadicaksono, who heads North Jakarta Police’s crime investigation unit, said today that the cyclists have filed a complaint against JM at Penjaringan sub-precinct. He said JM was angered after the cyclists told him to drive carefully, leading to the now-viral incident.

In a video published by North Jakarta Police, JM clarified what happened and apologized to the cyclists. Wirdhanto has confirmed that both parties have made peace.

“I’m [JM], and I’d like to clarify the viral video regarding the violence and threat I made against [ASTS and EST] in PIK 2,” JM said in the video.

“I would like to apologize to the National Police, because I claimed to be a police officer in that altercation. I hereby clarify that I am not a police officer, because I work as a contractor.”

Despite all the tension and drama, no one is being charged in this case.
