The Jakarta Metro Police have named a former COVID-19 patient at the capital’s main quarantine facility a suspect for violation of the anti-pornography law, after he shared on social media details about getting intimate with a nurse.
In late December, the 23-year-old patient, who was isolating at the Wisma Atlet quarantine facility in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, posted screenshots of his WhatsApp chat with the nurse on Twitter, which heavily implied that they had sex in a bathroom. The patient also posted a photo of the nurse’s PPE, which the latter supposedly discarded before he engaged in sexual activity with the patient.
Authorities immediately launched an investigation after the photos went viral and sparked outrage online, leading to a formal charge against the patient yesterday.
“One person [the patient] is now a suspect,” Head of Central Jakarta Crime Investigation Unit Burhanuddin confirmed.
The patient may face up to six years in prison and be slapped a fine of up to IDR1 billion (US$71,089) for posting pornographic content under the Information and Electronic Transactions Act (UU ITE). The nurse was not charged as he did not upload any pornographic content online.
The police said the patient and the nurse met through a gay dating app while the former was admitted to the quarantine facility. The pair met and had sexual relations on at least two occasions at Wisma Atlet.
