The Jakarta Metro Police has made a high profile drug bust, with the suspect reportedly being a famous DJ who resides in South Jakarta.
Endra Zulpan, a spokesman for the Jakarta Metro Police, said officers arrested a DJ with the initials CD at her apartment in Cilandak, South Jakarta at 11:30pm on Wednesday. Endra said CD was consuming crystal meth at the time of the arrest.
“Yes [she was doing crystal meth]. We have evidence,” he said during a press conference today.
Answering a query from reporters, Endra also confirmed the identity of the suspect to be Chantal Dewi.
“She is a celebrity and a famous DJ,” the spokesman said.
At the time of the article’s publication, Chantal is still being questioned by the police, who are determined to uncover her suppliers. Authorities have not yet announced formal charges against the 41-year-old as of Thursday morning.
Under Indonesia’s Narcotics Law, drug abuse is punishable by up to four years in prison or drug rehabilitation. Celebs implicated in drug cases, more often than not, get rehab.
A notable recent exception is the one year imprisonment each for actress Nia Ramadhani and her husband Ardi Bakrie, the son of Indonesia’s tycoon and politician Aburizal Bakrie.
