Indonesians tweeted 4.1 billion times in 2016

Did you tweet this story? If so, you contributed to making Indonesia one of the countries with the most active number of Twitter users in the world.

At an end of year review event held by Twitter yesterday, Twitter Indonesia Country Head Roy Simangunsong shared some pretty mind blowing statistics regarding Twitter usage in the country in the past year. Chief among them is the fact that 4.1 billion tweets have been made in Indonesia in 2016.

“The tweets made in Indonesia are indeed massive in number and are among the biggest in the world. That’s why many refer to Indonesia as the Twitter country,” Roy said, as quoted by BeritaSatu yesterday.

Roy added that an impressive 77% of Twitter users registered in Indonesia are currently active.

The most discussed moment on Twitter in Indonesia this year was the holy Muslim month of Ramadan, whereas the most tweeted hashtag was #RI71, which refers to the celebration of the 71st Independence Day of Indonesia.

Indonesian pop diva Agnes Monica (@Agnezmo) retains the honor of being the Indonesian with the most followers on Twitter with 16.1 million, up 1.5 million from last year, when she also topped the list. Comic Raditya Dika (@radityadika) and actress Luna Maya (@LunaMaya26) came second and third respectively.

And, in news that hits closer to home, we’re also proud to announce that Coconuts Jakarta has recently just surpassed 4,000 followers on Twitter. Yay!
