Indonesian woman won’t take the heat after feeding infant son dish containing 25 chili peppers

A TikTok user who goes by the handle @ceooppakalteng03 recently posted a video of her infant son crying hysterically after munching on sayur kelakai, or stir-fried lemidi, an edible fern that’s commonly found in Central Kalimantan. “Tasting sayur kelakai [containing] 25 chili peppers. Adults can get sweaty eating this dish, let alone babies. Her mother is unbelievable,” the mother wrote in the video, referring to herself in the first person. While many children are helplessly at the mercy of social media attention-seeking parents these days, this woman in the Central Kalimantan capital of Palangkaraya took oversharing to another sickening level by feeding her infant son with extremely spicy food for clout.

The caption of the video reads, “A Javanese descendant must be strong enough to eat chilis,” mentioning her son’s origin. According to another one of Shanty’s TikTok videos, her child will turn six months old soon.

At the time of writing, the TikTok has been viewed more than 1.9 million times and amassed over 51,800 likes. The mother has also turned off the comment section of the post, though negative comments have flooded her other videos.

“Congratulations, you’re finally featured on FYP after sacrificing your child,” one comment reads, referring to the mother’s video being featured on TikTok’s For You Page, which contains trending and popular content.

“[You are] the definition of only being able to make [a child] but can’t take care of them,” another comment reads, to which the mother replied in a video that her son is “healthy and smart” even though he has an “incompetent mom.”

Despite appearing to harm her own child, the mother appeared not to mind netizens’ concerns and even pinned the problematic TikTok video on top of her profile.

And while the video has gone hugely viral in Indonesia, authorities have yet to announce an investigation into the possible child endangerment case.
