Police in Bogor, West Java have finally arrested a possible culprit in the alleged murder of an 18-year-old girl named Andriana Yubelia Noven Cahya in January 2019.
Andriana was walking home from school and through a quiet alleyway on Jan. 8, 2019 when a man came up from behind her and stabbed her once in the left side of her chest before he walked away.
Andriana bled to death from the stab wound. Though CCTV footage from the alleyway initially led the police to suspect her then-boyfriend to be responsible, it took more than a year for authorities to gather enough evidence to incriminate him, after which they were able to establish the suspect’s motive and arrest him over the weekend.
According to the police, the alleged murderer, who has not been identified, met Andriana on an online gaming platform. The two then went into a long distance relationship, as Andriana lived in Bogor while the alleged culprit lived in East Java.
Not long into their relationship, the alleged culprit asked Andriana for nude photos, which she flatly refused. Intending to make him see how ridiculous his request was, Andriana told him to send his nudes to her first, which he obliged.
The alleged culprit then pestered Andriana to hold up her end of the bargain, but she kept refusing and threatened him that she would spread his nudes online if he doesn’t stop bothering her.
“The culprit then told Andriana that he was going to Bogor to kill her,” a source in the Bogor City Police told JawaPos.
Police said he carried out his threat and is now the sole possible suspect in Andriana’s murder. However, the police have so far been closely guarding details of his identity — possibly on account of him being a minor — as well as possible criminal charges against him.
