An Indonesian man is in police custody for attacking his neighbors, a married couple, with a machete for farting in his face, even though, according to him, they’re not that close.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning in the Lubuk Begalung sub-district of Padang, West Sumatra. According to the police, a couple, identified by their initials FG (46) and NRD (41), last week farted in the face of the suspect, who is identified as AS (37), several times, which angered him.
AS held on to his anger for days. On Tuesday, he went to the couple’s home carrying a machete and found FG sleeping in his bed. AS then whacked FG in the head and chest with the weapon. Hearing the commotion, NRD came into the room and AS also attacked her, resulting in wounds in her arms and ear.
FG and NRD were soon taken to hospital, with the husband still in critical condition as a result of the gruesome attack.
AS was arrested and confessed to attacking the couple for no other reason than having had his feelings hurt.
AS added that he was not at all close with his victims — at least not at the point where they would joke with each other with flatulence.
Police have charged AS with aggravated assault under the Criminal Code, which is punishable by up to eight years in prison. Police say they’re investigating the incident further to determine whether or not AS had other motives for the attack.
