It’s been said that health is a privilege for the wealthy in Jakarta - and there’s certainly some truth in that. The fact of the matter is, the capital’s lower income citizens simply cannot afford medical treatment that’s provided at Jakarta’s top hospitals and medical facilities. Sadly, this has led to many citizens not being able to receive the medical care they desperately need. There has been many occasions in Jakarta - and indeed around Indonesia - when the poor were turned away from hospitals because they don’t have money or their medical plan can’t sufficiently cover their bills. There have been cases where people were simply left to die in Jakarta because of this.
