It looks like the Jakarta Provincial Government is going to make good on its promise of adding more green spaces to the capital. According to Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, there will be at least six pilot parks built in five areas of the city and one administrative district in Jakarta in the near future.

In addition to functioning as green spaces, the parks will also be used to house social welfare facilities such as health centers and libraries.

“Next year there will be six pilot parks which will be managed by the Jakarta Family Welfare Movement (PKK). They will include libraries, neighborhood health centers, and more,” Ahok said in Monas on Sunday as quoted by Liputan6.

Ahok said the park projects are being done in cooperation with a number of companies through their corporate social responsibility programs. They are scheduled for completion around March 2015.

Ahok wife’s, Veronica Tan, is the Chairwoman of PKK Jakarta. She said she wanted to make sure there are more decent parks for children in the city.

“We want to make parks that are decent for children that can also become community centers, so later they will host activities for both children and parents,” Veronica said.
