Gramedia denies it’s sponsoring a “Dress like a terrorist’s wife” competition

A leaflet has apparently been distributed over the last few days in Depok advertising a “Dress like a terrorist’s wife” competition. The leaflet indicated the competition was part of the launch campaign for a new novel titled, “Akulah Istri Teroris” (I am the Terrorist’s Wife) and supposedly offered a grand prize of Rp 1 million for the lady with the best terrorist’s wife outfit.

The flyer says the competition was organized by Gramedia, Indonesia’s book publishing/retail giant, specifically its Depok outlet in Margot, on May 31.

Gramedia has denied they have anything to do with the leaflet, writing on Twitter:

“Tweeps.. All forms of promotion or activities that take place at Gramedia Depok, we inform you about through our official twitter account.”

Then, just to be totally clear, a little while later they Tweeted:

“Beloved tweeps, regarding this issue it is NOT TRUE, it is a HOAX. We do not have any events like that. Thank you.”

The Assistant Manager Gramedia Depok, Aulia Siska, said that the author of the book did want to do a promotion at the Gramedia outlet in Margonda, but that they never made any agreement.

“They wanted to have the book launch here, but there was no deal. It was just talk,” Aulia told Kompas

Gramedia Depok party said it would try to find out who was responsible for making the flyers.
