Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan says he’s standing firm against sexual harassment at City Hall amid allegations against a high-ranking official.

The Provincial Government suspended Jakarta Goods and Services Procurement Agency (BPPBJ) head Blessmiyanda on March 29 as the Jakarta Inspectorate launched an inquiry into allegations that he sexually harassed a female employee.

Amid an ongoing investigation, Governor Anies denounced sexual harassment when he spoke publicly about the case yesterday.

“I will not comment on the ongoing legal process. But what is clear is that the Jakarta Provincial Government has a zero tolerance policy towards sexual harassment,” Anies said at City Hall.

The governor added that the provincial government’s priority in the case is to provide protection for the victim.

The victim is a staff at the BPPBJ, who reported the alleged workplace sexual harassment by her boss to officials at City Hall. In addition to suspending Blessmiyanda, the victim said Anies also immediately formed a special task force to investigate the allegations.

The Witness and Victims Protection Agency, which is giving legal protection to the victim, said there may be more victims in the case, though only one has filed an official complaint thus far.

Blessmiyanda has denied the allegations but said he accepts his suspension for the purpose of the investigation.
