The whole nation has gotten used to seeing the face of Achmad Yurianto day in, day out as he delivered national updates on COVID-19 every afternoon, but now we have to get used to a new, albeit familiar, face for the important role.

Presidential spokesperson Fadjroel Rachman took to Twitter this morning to announce that celebrity doctor Reisa Broto Asmoro has been appointed as the new spokesperson for COVID-19-related matters in Indonesia to accompany Achmad Yurianto, who has been delivering daily updates since early March.

“There are two COVID-19 spokespersons now: Doctor Yurianto and Doctor Reisa,” Fadjroel tweeted.

From now on, the two spokespersons will be alternating duties in keeping the nation informed on the latest COVID-19 developments.

Reisa, 34, first shot to fame as a beauty queen and a model. Born Reisa Kartikasari in Malang, Reisa started her career as a finalist of a cover girl competition and later joined a modeling agency. She competed in the national beauty pageant Puteri Indonesia as a representative of Yogyakarta and was crowned as the first runner-up in 2010. In 2011, Reisa represented Indonesia at the Japanese-based international beauty pageant Miss International in Chengdu, China.

Reisa completed her studies in Pelita Harapan University’s medical school in 2014, and pursued a career in forensics by working at the National Police Hospital in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta. Reisa notably joined the disaster victim identification (DVI) team involved in identifying the victims of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 crash on Mount Salak, West Java in 2012 and several terrorism-backed bombings in Jakarta.

Her stint as a co-host of daytime wellness talk show Dr. Oz Indonesia, which lasted until a couple of years ago, propelled her to greater stardom, becoming one of the most famous celebrity doctors in the country.
