If you have to commute to/from Jakarta today, you might need to check Google Maps before you go as it currently includes a number of road closures taking place across the capital because of the ongoing election protests.

By activating the traffic feature on “Map Details”, Google Maps will display prohibitory traffic signs and red dotted lines on the closed roads. As seen by Coconuts this afternoon, the affected roads include Jalan Imam Bonjol up to the intersection of Jalan HOS. Cokroaminoto, Jalan MH Thamrin street from Bundaran HI up to Arjuna Wijaya statue, Jalan Jati Baru Raya, Jalan Ks. Tubun in Tanah Abang, and Jalan Slipi I.

In related news, today’s protests have also impacted the operations of several of Jakarta’s public transportation systems, including the closure of Tanah Abang KRL Commuterline station — one of the city’s main railway hubs — after it was attacked by rioters this morning.

MRT Jakarta has also closed Bundaran HI station, which is situated close to the main protest area outside the Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) office in Menteng, Central jakarta.

Several TransJakarta routes are also not running today, specifically ones that pass roads around Bawaslu. You can check for bus scheduling updates through TransJakarta’s official Twitter account or commuting apps such as Trafi or Moovit.

Following yesterday’s peaceful protests during the day and subsequent violent riots late into the evening, demonstrators are once again gathering outside the Bawaslu office today, with another peaceful protest expected to take place in downtown Jakarta.
