Extraordinary: Military general’s car queues with others in rush hour traffic jam, makes the news

Excuse the sarcasm. There’s really nothing extraordinary with this story in itself. What’s extraordinary is that it made the news.

We’ve all grown so tired of authorities violating traffic laws like they only apply to muggles like us (like in this case) that when somebody of power actually follows the rules, it’s a pretty big deal.

This Detik article reported on how a Toyota Fortuner that was carrying a one-star military general got stuck in the hellish Jalan Mampang Prapatan Raya macet in South Jakarta this morning.

Now, 9 times out of 10 we’d expect people with authority to skip the macet by driving on the Transjakarta-exclusive Busway lane. But not this unnamed general – when the traffic police directed the car into the macet lane with everyone else, he complied without fuss.

We know. Gasp, right?

Maybe the general decided not to drive on the Busway lane simply because there were traffic police officers around and he didn’t want to set a bad example. But whatever the reason, we tip our hat to you, good sir, and we hope others, not just authorities but the public as well, can follow this example.
