Police in Bandung regency, West Java arrested four women, aged 15-20, suspected of killing a 61-year-old rideshare driver in late March.
According to the police, on March 30, the victim, identified as a retired civil servant with the initials SBR, picked up two of the suspects, ERS and TCG, from Bogor, West Java. SBR reportedly accepted the ride order without the app and agreed to take ERS and TCG to Pangalengan sub-district in Bandung regency, which is located some 150 kilometers away, for IDR1.7 million (US$110).
On the way SBR also picked up another suspect, AS, in Jonggol sub-district before arriving in Pangalengan, where he picked up the fourth suspect, KSA.
In Pangalengan, the suspects admitted to SBR that they had no money to pay him. ERS then picked up a wrench she found in the car.
“The wrench was used to bludgeon the victim in the head,” Bandung Police Chief Hendra Kurniawan said today, as quoted by Kumparan, adding that ERS struck SBR in the head with the makeshift weapon eight times.
Police say KSA strangled SBR from the backseat while he was being bludgeoned. AS tossed SBR’s body over a cliff while TCG tried to eliminate all evidence of their murder.
The suspects drove SBR’s car to Cimahi city, West Java and left it on the side of a road. CCTV cameras caught the four leaving the car, which helped in their identification and eventual arrest.
All four suspects have been charged with premeditated murder and each face up to 20 years in prison.
