Yesterday’s floods in Jakarta and across its satellite cities were the worst to hit the area in about two years, with hundreds of locations reported to have been flooded and water depths reaching as high as 100cm in some neighborhoods.

Sadly, yesterday’s floods reportedly claimed the lives of three citizens in Jakarta and Bekasi.

One victim, a 31-year-old resident of the Kemang neighborhood in South Jakarta, reportedly died after her house was flooded. Following an autopsy, it is believed that she was electrocuted after some loose cables in her house came into contact with flood water.

In West Jakarta, a 15-year-old boy reportedly drowned after he was swept away by the Mookervart canal, which saw an increase in water levels and current speed as a result of prolonged heavy rainfall yesterday.

In Bekasi city, one person reportedly died after being swept away by a strong current of flood.

In addition, two people were reportedly injured yesterday, one of whom was cut by shards of glass that were carried by the flood.
