Many areas in Jakarta were hit with prolonged periods of heavy rainfall since yesterday evening, resulting in what could be the largest widespread flooding the capital has seen in about two years.

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), along with open source flood reporting platform PetaBencana.id, announced that they have received around 400 reports of floods from citizens across the Greater Jakarta area since midnight.

According to BNPB, as of 8am, there were 56 flooded locations in Jakarta. The highest number was in East Jakarta with 34 flood spots, followed by North Jakarta with 14 and South Jakarta with 11.

Most of the floods range between 10-50cm in water depth, but some neighborhoods had it much worse, such as East Jakarta’s Pondok Kelapa and Taman Malaka neighborhoods with floods as deep as 100cm.

If you have to travel today, the Jakarta Traffic Police’s official Twitter account @TMCPoldaMetro has been posting recent photos of floods from throughout the city. Avoid these areas if at all possible until the floods subside.
