Filastine is one of the coolest, most eclectic musical acts touring the world today. In his own words, Grey Filastine composes “gritty electronic music that collides the lowest frequencies of bass music with the highest-level beat science, acoustic instruments and field recordings.”

Filastine’s songs also feature exquisite lyrical rhymes from Javanese indie rapper Nova. The two will be taking the stage at @america for a special live gig in honor of their new album, Drapetomania, and entrance is free. If you’re interested in avantgarde EDM with a political edge, be sure to catch this gig. Starts at 7pm. For more info

Colosseum remains one of Jakarta’s hottest nightclubs three years after it opened its doors and to celebrate its birthday this year they are bringing in none other than Jeffrey Sutorius, the face of legendary Duch electronic group Dash Berlin who was ranked the 10th most popular DJ in the world in 2013. The theme for the party is all-white so if you show up at the door dressed head to toe in it you can get in for Rp 300k whereas those in multicolored ensembles will have to pay Rp 500k.

Listen to lyrics about our need to know at this poetry open mic event (Saturday)

Another event to look forward to at @america this weekend is the latest edition of the Unmasked – Poetry Open Mic event on Saturday, which is honoring International Right to Know Day, which aims to “to raise awareness about people’s right to access government information while promoting freedom of information as essential to both democracy and good governance”. Obviously the day has a special meaning in Indonesia, where the government is attempting to cover up shameful parts of the nation’s history by denying people information about and the right to discuss those events, and the poets at this event will address what it means to struggle for truth and knowledge through lyric and verse. See a different side of Senopati on this bicycle tour

Senopati is definitely one of Jakarta’s hottest neighborhoods, filled with tree-lined lanes and a constant influx of new trendy F&B and nightlife offerings. But there’s another side to this happening South Jakarta hood and, after the success of their previous bike tours (including another one in Kemang), tour group TRIPS by Flat06 wants more people to experience it. The above video of their last Senopati tour, which included 25 cyclists of 7 nationalities traversing 20 kilometers, should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect. Tour starts at 6am on Sunday morning, for tickets and more info go to the Goersapp website.

Also still on this weekend – be sure to check out some 100% awesome films that embrace the diversity of the human experience at the 100% Manusia film festival (Until Sunday)

The 100% Manusia (100% Human) film festival aims to “facilitate change in our society by raising awareness and supporting human empowerment for a better future”. The festival’s line-up of movies, being screened at venues across Jakarta until Oct 1, tackle issues including human rights, diversity, gender and HIV/AIDS and were chosen to create platforms to discuss and exchange ideas free of labels, stereotypes, prejudices and negative stigmas.

The festival includes award-winning films from across the globe, from the UK to India and of course Indonesia. We’re especially looking forward to the critically-acclaimed Die Beautiful from the Philipines as well as Taxi Stories, a mosaic film featuring stories set in Beijing, Hong Kong and Jakarta where “the paths of the rich and poor cross one another in and around taxis”.
