Witness Micro Galleries’ artists transform a kampung into an amazing open-air art exhibition

Micro Galleries is a free, global arts initiative that “brings art to the doorstep of people who need it the most” by reclaiming public space and transforming them into open-air galleries as well as venues for workshops, talks and fun events that are free and accessible to all. Fifty artists from across Indonesia and the world will paste up, spray, install, perform and project their art throughout the laneways, corners and secret spots of Kampung Kecil in South Jakarta, making it into a hidden labyrinth of open-air galleries.

Clean Up Jakarta Day is an annual event that brings together communities and volunteers in the spirit of “gotong royong” (helping one another) to raise awareness about the problem of rubbish and littering by cleaning up the capital. The fourth Clean Up Jakarta Day took place on Sunday October 16th 2016, and 20,000 volunteers turned up, bright and early to clean up 53 locations around the city and collect a total of over 80 tons of rubbish – 3 tons of which were recyclable and were sent to the city’s waste banks – in the space of two hours!
